Choosing Your Thoughts

For those who already perceive more than they would wish

This text addresses People of Heightened Perception — those who already perceive more than they would wish, and who come seeking not less perception, but a hand on what they do with it. It concerns one precise power : choosing your thoughts as you choose your words. It examines why trying is never enough, what tradition and field observation say about this power, and what taking it back demands, day after day, once it has been recognised.

By M. Mischa Harmeijer, psychist · Château de Villereglan · August 2026

PPA Personne à Perception Accrue (Person with Heightened Perception) : a person whose perceptual flow exceeds the ordinary rate — whether that perception is still endured or already mastered.
You choose your thoughts as you choose your words, every day. It is a power, and it lies in your hands.

If you cannot choose your thoughts, you have a problem. You live in a house whose keys another holds.

You come here to take your life back in hand. You want to work the mind, to hold it, to master it. You cling to that control.

Trying. That is the problem. Trying is not acting. It is standing at the edge, never going in. As long as you try, you do nothing.

So move. Do not let it happen.

1.The house and the keys

Who holds the keys to a house one has lived in all along ? No one from outside, most of the time. They are the habits of thought installed without being chosen, the old system that answers before one has had time to decide — fear taking the floor in place of calm, doubt replying before examination. That system works, it keeps the house in order in its own way, and that is precisely what makes taking it back difficult : it is not hostile, it is merely installed, often since childhood, and it has had all the time it needed to learn to answer first.

Taking back the keys is therefore not driving out an intruder. It is recognising that one handed them over oneself, one day, so as to no longer have to close the door. Directing your mind begins here : with the plain observation, without drama, that the door closed without your closing it.

2.Why trying is never enough

Trying is an act of will directed against oneself. One strains the will against an installed habit, and the more one strains, the more the habit resists — an old law of suggestion, set out by Émile Coué last century : when will and imagination are in conflict, it is always imagination that wins. Trying not to think of a thing is already thinking of it insistently. Trying to calm oneself by force is already saying, deep down, that calm is not acquired.

That is why trying leaves you at the edge : the struggle itself confirms, with every attempt, that the thing is difficult. Acting is something else : a decision taken calmly, without struggle against oneself, which does not seek to defeat the old system but to install another in its place.

3.The mind as material

The hermetic tradition holds thought to be far more than a commentary on the real : the All is Mind, the Universe is Mental, says the first of the seven principles of the Kybalion. Under that doctrine, choosing a thought is no cosmetic gesture : it is acting on the raw material from which the rest is formed. Which explains why the question is never trivial, and why taking it back in hand changes more than a passing mood.

4.The seed and the choice

A thought that installs itself without having been chosen has grown on its own, like a seed fallen at random on ground no one prepared. A thought you choose is a seed you plant : you decide where, and of what it will be made. This is what the Centre calls a thought-seed in another of its notes — a word or an image placed with intention, which becomes the starting point of a new perception rather than the continuation of an old one. Choosing your thoughts is therefore not merely watching what passes ; it is planting before chance does it in your place.

5.Endured, or mastered

There is neither gift nor curse in that excess of perception which characterises the PPA : there is an apprenticeship. A PPA who endures sees the flow overflow and the filter let through nothing but the alarm ; a PPA who masters has structured the handling of that same flow. The passage from one to the other rests on nothing more than the power already described : the capacity to choose what you think, before thought has been left to the chance of a flow you do not yet direct.

Subie, ou maîtrisée SUBIE le flux déborde, le filtre ne laisse passer que l’alarme MAÎTRISÉE le même flux, structuré, devient un instrument
Figure 3 — Endured, or mastered.

What weighs as an excess, once directed, becomes an instrument. Perception does not diminish : it simply stops acting alone.

6.A daily discipline

This choice is not made once and for all. It is tamed, day after day, in the patient noticing of what you let install itself and what you choose to plant in its place. No one becomes master of their mind by a single decision, however right — one becomes so by repeating a single gesture, made again each time the old system takes the floor first. It is daily work, unshowy, and that is precisely why it holds over time where will alone fails.

That gesture bears an old name : monoideism, the state in which a single idea occupies the field. It is not concentration, which grips ; it is not emptiness, which slips away. It is one idea held alone, long enough that it no longer has to be defended. Here is how to approach it when starting out.

Exercise — holding a single idea

Choose a word in advance, outside the exercise, at a calm moment. One only, short, and one that suits you : calm, clear, present. The word is chosen cold, never at the moment you need it.

Each day at the same hour, sit for three minutes. Three, no more : the short duration is what makes repetition possible, and it is repetition that installs, not length.

Place the word, inwardly, slowly. Let it occupy the ground. You have nothing to produce, nothing to feel, nothing to check.

Your attention will wander. It always does, and that is not a failure — it is the very material of the exercise. When you notice, drive nothing out and start nothing over : simply place the word back. The return is the exercise. Driving out would be struggling, and you now know what struggle is worth.

Stop at three minutes even when it is going well. Keep the same word for a whole week before changing it : a word replaced too soon never has time to settle.

After a few days you will notice the word returning of its own accord outside the exercise, at moments when you had not called it. That is the sign that the ground is taken.

One difficulty remains, and it is a real one : a daily discipline is invisible from the inside. You do not feel yourself progressing, you feel only the days when it is hard — and those days weigh far heavier in memory than the rest. That is how work is abandoned which, measured, turns out to have been held after all.

That is what Δ Delta-Score is for. The application records, each day, what was done and what was perceived, and makes visible across several weeks what a single day never shows : the real curve, beneath the impression of the moment. For a PPA it is the instrument that separates the flow from its reading. It is open to everyone, free of charge.

Where do you stand with your perception?

The “Are you perceptible?” test situates your profile in a few minutes — the flow, the processing, the state. To go further, the meeting takes place by appointment.

For practitioners

Installing a thought rather than fighting another : that is exactly what suggestion teaches. Centre EPÉU transmits the method to those who accompany others, and Δ Delta-Score Cabinet brings measurement and follow-up to your practice.
